I can not imagine that anybody does not know who Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are, but if you don’t, I know you have heard Amy Winehouse’s album Back to Black. They played the music on that album. I think the first time I heard them was 2006 or so and I loved it. Sharon Jones is fierce soul awesomeness. Her voice is like the best of hot toddies, sweet and strong. They appear in Cole Haan’s (@colehaan) latest campaign and are set to release new music for the holidays. Can’t wait.
I am about to be knee deep in Christmas cards, but I wish I had some of this pantone to play with while I made them (@sugarpaperla). Sad puppy face.
I expect to ship out the last of my aforementioned Christmas cards on Monday, so I am really looking forward to doing holiday things with the kids and making art journal pages, though I am pretty sure they will not turn out as neat as Sandy Allnock’s (@sandyallnock).
I have been making cards for myself (and helping the kids with theirs) for years. I thought I had learned a lot, but in the past twelve months, I feel like I have learned exponentially where I had been learning additionally. I am still playing with, working with and adding to my portfolio the things I learned at my Copic class and that was almost a month ago. One of the things that really excites me is how I can try something out with this art collaboration and then turn around and apply an aspect to paper crafting. I love the way things can meld together now in terms of mixed media crafting and art. Here are some of the ideas on my Christmas Card drawing board. Stay tuned.
Art Journal Layout (posted by @vickyp_gr) Once I complete my current art collaboration project, I definitely see some art journaling in my future. Maybe eventually on a daily basis. Baby steps. Vicky Papaioannou is an amazing paper artist from Greece who made this layout.
Kayaking in Congaree (posted by @usinterior) I have wanted to learn to kayak, and then go kayaking for a few years now. When I have enough time in my schedule, I’m definitely going to take basic training on operating the craft and staying safe. Then, lookout world! I want to go in rivers, lakes, oceans, the whole nine, and get good enough to do easy rapids and waterfalls. When I discussed it with my husband, he gave me the answer I gave him when he wanted to buy a motorcycle: that I have to wait until the kids can take care of themselves and that he refuses to tell my mother that I have been hurt (or worse) in an accident. Sigh.
Dave Chappelle covers GQ Men of the Year Issue (posted by @ledisi) There was a lot of gossip going on in Portland last Fall. Somebody said Dave Chappelle was doing a concert and on the strength of word of mouth alone, the tickets were long gone before the concert was even announced. Ditto Radio Music Hall in the NYC this Summer when Chappelle launched a series of shows to celebrate the ten year anniversary of his Block Party film. When you can sell tickets like that when regular people don’t even KNOW you’re coming to town, you need to be on the cover of a magazine somewhere.
