This one is to celebrate the 93rd birthday of jazz legend John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie, who was born in Cheraw, South Carolina. He started to play the piano at age four, the trumpet and trombone by age 12. He is one of the major innovators of bebop, which was the first modern form of jazz, but I’ve always been impressed that he spent 53 years of his life married to the same woman. Not many famous musicians, jazz or otherwise, can say that.
