Today I was reading about Shaun Robinson’s latest book, Exactly as I am. It combines a lot of comments she has heard over the years, both from girls who are negatively influenced by the images of beauty they have perceived in the media and those who are happy with themselves. It’s really sad to me that so many young ladies are swayed by the air brush and makeup, but the message of the book, which is that young ladies are beautiful as they are, is overwhelmingly positive. I hope when my daughter reaches adolsecence she sees herself for the unique beautiful person that she is. It took me way too long to do that for myself.

How could she not! She’s absolutely gorgeous, extremely intelligent, and funny as all get out. She’s wary of strangers and comfortable around friends.
I know what you mean thought….as adults we can identify the issues we’ve gotten over and how long it took us and we don’t want our little ones to go through that.
I’m not dark enough, not light enough, my hair’s too short, my butt is too big, I don’t have a big butt, I’m dumb, I get teased in school for being too smart, I’m too fat, I’m too skinny, I’m too short, I’m too tall…..all distorted views of perfection.

Thanks. It seems that the media and its bad images are becoming more and more pervasive. You need to be bone thin, but wait, you have to have a big behind and breasts (how you carry that around on a rail thin body, I’ll never know, LOL).
