Is poetry dying out?

The number of adults reading poetry is at its lowest number in 16 years. On the bright side, more Americans are reading fiction in general. Just not poetry, that’s all.

I hate reading poetry, I always have. Which is weird, because I love to hear others read their poetry or perform spoken word live. I’ve written and read my own stuff out loud. But poetry on the printed page doesn’t do it for me – it doesn’t draw me in like prose fiction does.

You know you had me scratching my head and wondering, “but, doesn’t she write poetry?” LOL. I haven’t been moved to write anything in years, but I’m an avid reader 🙂
