The Pumpkin Patch.

One really cool thing about the place where we live is that there are several operating farms in the area where kids can choose a pumpkin, navigate a maize maze, see apple cider pressed and do all kinds of other neat stuff around Halloween time.

The one closest to us is a farm that has been in operation by the same family since 1872. The fourth and fifth generations of the family are running the farm. I think it’s wonderful to see enterprises that are handed down like this.  The store in the front of the property was an idea of the youngest member of the family running the farm which helped him save money for college.

My husband and I have toyed with the idea of leaving the city and the suburbs behind and starting our own farming enterprise. I think when we do so, we have a vision of a place like this that can be a source of pride and provision for our children’s children and their children.
