Makeup finds

Every now and then I come across some skincare or other cosmetic item that really works for me. I thought I’d share.

Atomic Volume Mascara ($16. Sephora) I got the opportunity to try this out while testing my intense purple eyeshadow look. The brush is highly similar to that of the Chanel Inimitable Multi-Dimentionnel Mascara ($35 and up) and the Covergirl Lashblast mascara ($6.75), which was lauded in O as one of the best beauty products of the summer. Atomic Volume lengthens and separates, giving the drama of longer and thicker lashes without clumping and any of that other potential spider eye madness.

Smashbox Photofinish Makeup Primer ($16-$36, most fine beauty retailers ) is a 2007 winner of InStyle best in beauty, but I became a witness this weekend. First of all, I felt like I was in a science fiction movie because of the lightness and the smoothness with which it went on. I was loving it before I applied any makeup. I used it with my prescriptives foundation and the application was flawless and the makeup endured the high high temps of our late Summers. There are tons of good reviews on this product, but I just have to add that they are all true. And maybe then some.

I’m going to try that primer. My makeup never stays on. Even eyeshadow.

I’m still learning what works and what doesn’t for me when it comes to makeup. I don’t wear foundation, but I think it may be time to start wearing something light…

There are a lot of light foundations out there these days and even tinted moisturizers and bronzers. I think the most important thing is using a foundation (or moisturizer) with SPF to protect the skin.
