A little over a week ago, I bought some clothes for Little A. I found some cute tops and pants that would see her from the summer into the early school year, or even later with layers. I continued to stroll through the toddler/little kids’ department when I saw some cute little t-shirts and what appeared to be coordinating print shorts. Once I held the shorts up, though, they turned out to be hot pants. For a four year old? A year or so ago, I bought my husband’s niece, a 13 year old girl, a dress and it took forever to find something age appropriate, stylish, but not too suggestive. I wondered back then how I would handle things when Little A got to her tweens and early teens. And now I’m here, eye to eye, with four year old short shorts.
There is a new book out about the sexualization of young girls these days, so I guess I’m not the only person who sees something wrong with this.
