I’m all for programs that support and encourage marriage.

Really. I am. But sometimes we need to look at the things that are already in place that discourage marriage and sort of work on and encourage work on them too. I read that a recent study disclosed divorce and single parenthood cost the US taxpayer $112 billion a year. The sponsors of the study are attempting to get lawmakers to invest more money into marriage strengthening programs. I think this is a good thing, but I really wish somebody was trying to get more into the big problems that can cause a marriage to falter. Lack of emotional support due to a couple having to move far away because of a lack of economic opportunity, for example. Just my thinking.
