Showdown

This afternoon I was forced to see how far I had come in my journey to grown upness. Little A managed to get hold of a bag of rice in the cabinet and spilled it on the floor. It looked like less than a cup and it scattered all over the floor, so salvaging it would not have been a wise use of time or anything. I whipped out the broom and dustpan and was beginning to clean it up when my mother in law walked up and looked me dead and the eye and said, “You are going to throw that away?” in a voice that would have suggested that Little A spilled the whole bag of rice. I looked at her for a moment and said, “Yes.” and began sweeping. She said, “Ok.” My husband may hear more of this, but I really don’t cur.

Now let me tell you a little something about Indian mothers in law. They can crush the will of ten soldiers. IN THEIR SLEEP. LOL. Not really, but they take over the house. TAKE OVER. I remember the first time my mother in law visited, I really wanted her to like me, but by the time they left, I did not know whether I was coming or going. I was exhausted trying to impress her, discouraged because nothing I did worked, and angry at my husband because I thought, “Why can’t you have a better family? ” LOL.  But not so funny at the time.

I think life has worn me to the point where I’m like, I know what kind of person I am. I try to hold my life to a high standard. Raise kids who will contribute to their society and community. Bless the lives of those who I’ve been given in the form of friends and family. I really hope God approves, but anybody else, well, I hope that we get along, but do I seek approval or permission to proceed? Notsomuch.
