A talk with my brother

Monday was my brother’s birthday. He was 28. I called him on Tuesday to wish him a belated Happy Birthday, but he was in the hospital. Wednesday, I was in bed sick myself so I did not call anyone. By the time the night rolled around, I was feeling better. My mother had called me twice.

Turns out that my brother had a mild stroke. At 28. The doctors wanted to keep him in the hospital for observation and he said no thank you. What in the world? My father’s family has an extensive history of stroke, aneurysm and he thought he was good after a stroke? At age 28? Of course this led to me calling him once I felt completely better (I needed my energy) and giving him an extended tongue lashing. Only because I was concerned, but a tongue lashing nonetheless.

OMG, a stroke (no matter how mild) is nothing to sneeze at. More than likely it was a part of a series of mini strokes which they say are worse than the massive strokes in terms of long term damage. At least in the hospital they can monitor him. I will keep your family in my thoughts. You seem to be going through a rough patch. Take care of yourself and hopefully your brother will take care of himself.

Thanks for your thoughts. We’ve been so blessed as a family. I have to keep that in mind when stuff like this happens.

I’m taking it REAL easy after last week, and I’m sure my brother is, too. My mom went to his house for the next couple of weeks to make sure he’s ok. and to fuss at him some more 🙂
