When I read about the last changes in flight security which called for an end to on-flight beverages and toiletries, I quietly resigned myself to a life of road travel until the baby turns four or five. This incident makes me ponder my choice. Although I’ve never been booted off of a flight because of the behavior of my kids and I have traveled with two three year olds by air (I always kept em fed to the gills and bathroom needs taken care of, not to mention blankies so they can sleep after being fed to the gills), the story just cements in my mind the anti-customer culture that governs airplane service. You don’t get there on time. They try to give you a half of can of beverage and pseudo pretzels. You have a wide choice of sucky movies or sucky commercials as entertainment. Then you get the added joy of being wanded down and deshoed when it doesnt even guarantee your safety. It’s enough to make me put away money for one of those private flying service flight cards if not a gulfstream. Yeah, I can dream. Or hit the lotto. Or something.
My kids are grounded. for now.

Okay first of all, that couple is lying. When the story first broke EVERY SINGLE PASSENGER AND THE ATTENDANTS all reported that the parents were given an opportunity to settle the child down and after a FIFTEEN MINUTE DELAY, they decided that it was unfair to the other passengers on the plan to continue waiting. You’ll notice that the interview you linked only gives the parents side.
While I can understand the frustration that the parents may have felt, I am completely appreciative of the airlines decision to take their other customers into consideration.

I thought my story quoted the airline spokeswoman as saying that they waited 15 minutes… My husband says he would have taken the tickets to fly anywhere, THEN not flown with them again. I dont know what I would have done, so I’m thankful that my plan of keeping kids fed, hydrated, and rested has worked in the past.
