This morning, I was walking with my six year old, and autumn was really in the air. He’s really happy about the change in seasons too. The leaves were as crisp as the air that was cool on my shoulders. I know that school started this week, but usually there is some kind of adjustment period during which the weather gradually cools down. Last night I had to run around making sure that all of the kids were covered with their blankets. It was really cold, like not pretend fall or pre-fall, but fall. Winter is my favorite season, so I’m good with that.
I did my fall walk through at Costco. The usual seasonal war is going on that takes place this time of year. Pumpkins, witches, haunted houses, and trick or treat candy fight against santa, his elves, the wise men, Mary, Joseph and Jesus for shelf space. Not to mention the trick or treat bags and gift wrap. Around early-October, the Christmas toys, symbols and decorations will triumph once again. Then the wars on our street for Christmas dominance will start. You know, one neighbor puts up the candy canes on his lawn. Another neighbor counters with Santa and the reindeer, somebody else whips out the nativity, and on it goes until entire streets are lit up from end to end. We’ll see.
