Today was the first day of Al’s first French class. He was so psyched. He learned to count and colors and a little song about friends and stuff. I gave him some words to start with so that if he had one of those foreign language teachers that don’t allow you to speak English in class, he wouldn’t feel as if he was drowning. French is Al’s first foreign language. He will most likely learn Latin next. French was always my foreign language. I’ve learned some German and some Spanish, but French was always my main language.
Since my family is from Louisiana, my French goes way back. I remember my dad’s family speaking Creole, and I remember how easily French always seemed to come to me once I started studying it when I was about Al’s age. I am really excited to be a part of him learning it, even if he goes on to bigger and better things.
En Francais, s’il vous plait!

I would love to relearn French. I took it in H.S. That’s great you are starting him early. I’ve been trying to learn Spanish but it has never been an easy language for me although I’ve been exposed to it my whole life. I wanna be multilingual!

Go Al!! I took 3 years of French in high school and I’m still struggling. I would love to learn another language though.

I’ve had that Spanish immersion experience, too, Berry 🙂
Maybe when you finish in school, you’ll be a world traveling business person and you can learn then, Melette.
