I really wish black women would learn to live and let live with the hair situation. A lot of women wearing naturals assume that every time a woman puts a product on her head, she is practicing self hatred. I had a discussion with a person who insisted this was the case. Is it that deep, y’all? I know a few self hating fro and dred wearing individuals. It just seems like the community at large has quite a few major fish to fry (you know, education, AIDS, poverty and the systematic disenfranchisement of our people to name a few) to sweat who wears a perm.
Good and Bad Hair.

AMEN AND AMEN!

Naw, it’s not the deep…it’s a personal choice. I’ve been on both side of the spectrum.

Maybe I need to ease up with my views on perms. I have eased up on the self-hatred views but, I still wonder about how healthy it is.

I’m glad it’s not just me. I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum, too. There are all natural perms that leave the hair healthy and there are some chemicals people have no business applying in industrial applications, much less their hair. The funny thing about it is it is all good to have a healthy appreciation for one’s hair, but it gets kind of ugly when it resorts to put downs and lack of respect for the choice of others. If only there could be this much focus on what goes on inside of people’s heads… hmmmm….
