The soothing power of Milk

The baby was especially intrigued by a small container of chutney we had in the kitchen. This chutney was made with cilantro, chiles and lime juice. I knew it was trouble, but sooner or later, she may actually learn not to put everything in her mouth. The minute I saw her grab it, I just went in the fridge and poured up a cup of milk. When she started screaming at the top of her lungs, I just handed it over. I’ll bet she has never had a more cool and delicious cup of milk in her life. I know that I take a lot of things in life for granted until I come across the chutneys of my life. Then I am so appreciative of that good old glass of milk that can cool things over.
The New Monogamy?
One of the newest oldest things to come down the pipe is the open marriage. I think it’s referred to as permissive cheating and the new monogamy. I think my mama and them call it swapping out. My question is, why get married if you are going to do that? I mean, is that a way of saying that although I still get around, you’re my favorite person to kick it with when I’m between people? Some people have a system where a spouse (or both) are permitted to have a limited number of rendez-vous per year or something. My question is, what if one finds somebody that’s really good at stuff? Would that person, who is already doing the extramarital thing, stop at their nookie limit? Don’t think so. Ruby Dee said that she and Ossie Davis had an “understanding” like that, but that they had to end it because it wasn’t worth the jealousy and negative feelings. That’s the thing about marriage and intimacy. Emotions tied to them can’t be controlled. Sooner or later, some jealousy or resentment is bound to come to the surface. Then somebody sets somebody else’s stuff on fire.
A Busy Weekend
Have you ever noticed how everybody and their mama tries to have an event or meeting on the same weekend? My friend has a housewarming Saturday evening after the scrapbook convention and there is a ball and another meeting in the afternoon. See, there was a time when I would have run to each of these events, trying to be everywhere because things are so important. Riding around with my gown and changing between events. Full plate with stuff falling off. Things, events and causes are still important, but these days, my sanity is also important so I’ll be at the convention and the housewarming. Then I’ll be at home. Maybe I’ll have a glass of milk.
