I have decided to train for the big local marathon. It’s 26 miles, so I’ll be running from now until October. I think that this process will be good for me because I have always wanted to compete in a competition like this. I’ve been eating pretty healthfully since Christmas with a day or so off every couple of weeks. I have to really get more enthusiastic about vegetables and stuff, but they just don’t seem to taste as good in the winter as they do in the summer. What’s up with that?
I also think that this process will get me more in tune with my body. I thought I had everything down pat, but since I had the baby, it has really been an uphill battle to maintain stuff. My body, which I could count on to stay in reasonably good shape and get straight bangin with a little step aerobics and pilates, just started demanding more work. Like walk briskly/jog three miles to even get warmed up and stuff.
Then a couple of weeks ago I ran out of my favorite flavor of green tea and messed up and got some at Costco trying to be cheap. It has not been the same. And that is my body flushing, have a quiet moment type of remedy in the morning. Shoot. Maybe when I get my tax refund I can dump that tea. I hate to waste it, but it sucks.
The training program I am starting on is about ten miles a week around this time of the year alternating days running and resting and building up until the marathon. I am holding on to the option of walking the marathon in the event that anything comes up. There is another marathon two hours away in November. Who knows, if I like this one, maybe I’ll do that one, too. Shoot, once you’ve done 26 miles, why not? Then again, the day after the local marathon I might just say, “I don’t want to hear the word run until after the new year.” We’ll see…
i guess i’m in training.
