Today, we had one of these at my house. No, nobody is on crack, but the baby seems to have a trash habit that we needed to address. Every now and then, I’d find a container on the floor that I could have sworn was inside of the trash. Well, today I caught her watching me, and I let on like I didn’t know. Then I just stood back and watched her. She pulled the lid off of the garbage can (which is not easy because it’s one of those foot open deals) and commenced to searching for items of interest. After I washed her hands THOROUGHLY, we had a chat about how the trash can is for things we throw away, and how I had better not see her in it again. She wobbles past the trash can now with the most woeful look, like she has lost a friend or something, but I think she will make it.

I had an interesting experience today while I was helping Al study his Greek Mythology lesson today. He is a big fan of Greek myths, so he looks them up on the internet from time to time. I make sure and keep tabs on the sites he visits, so there hasn’t been any real trouble, that is, until today. It’s Medusa’s fault. You know, that chick with the snaky hair that can look at folk and turn em to stone. I had an English teacher in eighth grade who I thought could do that if she tried real hard, but I digress. The thing went down like this…
AL (reading) : Athena was jealous of Medusa’s hair so she changed her into a gorgon. That’s not what happened. She defiled Athena’s temple when she lay with Poseidon in it. Why are they lying about that?
TJ (shocked) : What did you say boy?
AL : That Medusa lay with Poseidon in Athena’s temple and that’s why she was changed.
TJ : Where did you read that?
AL: At mythweb. I’m sorry. Don’t take my site away….
TJ frantically looks for references to Medusa and finds the information.
So after all of those hours of making sure that my son wasn’t surfing any dangerous sites, he needs look no further than the educational mythology site to find people doin the nasty in Athena’s temple. It seems that the publisher of Al’s book watered it down for third graders while my son was out getting the real deal on the internet site. I sure don’t appreciate having to go into what “laying” with someone can mean with an eight year old…

I haven’t really made any New Year’s resolutions, but I have decided that I will grow old gracefully? What does that mean? I mean, it won’t mean that I’m going to go get a rocking chair next week or something. Or let myself go. I’m just not trying to go through dying my hair or claiming that I am 29 for the next five or six years. That’s all.
I had a friend who got her mother a facelift for her 50th birthday and she was anticipating some work for herself. Girlfriend wasn’t even 30 yet and was making plans for half of her body. (and there weren’t three grams of fat on her body, okay?) Yeesh. I mean, if you want to go that way, good, but I’m working with my original factory parts. If one gets broken or something, then yeah, I’ll get it fixed, but just to move one step closer to Barbie, it ain’t happenin.

wow. laying in the temple. i first read that phrase at age 6 in a bible stories book. explaining potiphar’s wife trying to get down with joseph. what’s funny is i didn’t think about sex. i thought it meant, literally, to lay down. and maybe sleep. LOL! what funny is al was like, “why they lying?” ROFL!
