I don’t do black fridays. I’ll probably go out and take a look at what is what, but I think I have outgrown getting up at the crack of dawn and roaming the malls and Target. I never did the Walmart thing because that was always where the fights broke out over 20$ dvd players and things like that. Around the time I turned 25 or so it dawned on me that I was getting up early to stand in line to spend money. I was like, “How about I get up that early to make money?” and I’ve been cured ever since.
Rollin wit the King
A few days ago my sister and I were talking about all the fast food joints of our youth, and Burger King came up. We were talking about that huge breakfast sandwich (you know, the one with enough cholesterol for a week or something?) and how maybe they should include a pager for emergency services, in case somebody has coronary problems while they are eating that joint.
The Burger King ads featuring “The King” came up. Does this guy have RESTRAINING ORDER written all over him or what? Maybe that’s the point or something, but man, I would not want him popping up to hand me NOTHIN, ya heard? This guy shows up in people’s beds, on their jobs
(on a construction site high up in the air), in their cars, even on the back of a bicycle (I know I’m not the only one wondering what happened to the chick on the bicycle). I don’t know if I’d accept food from somebody with a 2 foot tall head or something, much less drive thru food. I’m keeping it equal opportunity. I don’t like Ronald McDonald and his friends (especially since I’m a parent now) either.
The B Word
You want to talk about an emotionally charged word, I have one for you. Budget. Money is no joke. Especially when you start dealing with the season of emotional spending, I mean, the holidays. Since we’re working on handling all of our 2005 business, we are looking at our 2006 budget, which is hard when you are getting ready to knock out Christmas presents, dinners, decorations and all the other stuff that comes with the Holiday season. Emotions and money do not mix. In my life they don’t. I think it comes from my background. My father is a cheap man, mostly because he comes from a humble background. While he is highly efficient with money (which is very good), he unnecessarily cuts corners when it comes to quality (buying meat off the back of a truck can be bad). My mother has always had a taste for quality, which can be good and bad as well. I have struggled to obtain and maintain a balanced attitude toward spending that so that I purchase quality items that last (so that I won’t constantly replace them) but at the same time getting as fair a price as possible, and forgoing purchases that aren’t in line with my or my family’s goals. This is a struggle, but I think I’m growing.
Grown and Sexy
I guess that it is a good thing that older people can still be hip and cool. I don’t know how I feel about babyface still being grown and sexy or about Charlie Wilson asking people for their number in the club. Both of these men are amazing talents in their own rights. I think that it bothers me that they still are being marketed as youthfully sexy (then again, I don’t like the youthfully sexy stuff) and stuff as opposed to more olderfully sexy. If the Rolling Stones can still kick it like they do in their sixties, I guess these guys can do their thing for a few more decades, lol.
