I know that Veteran’s Day was last Friday. This week I had the opportunity to share some nice words with a soldier in Iraq who is going through a lot. I am glad that I did. My dad fought in the Vietnam War, so I always had a really deep respect for those who risk their lives for us, whether I agree with why they are there or the fact that they are there or not. It warmed my heart that I got such a positive response from the soldier, but I wish I could do more. I wish I could send him a turkey or something, at least. How do you thank somebody for risking their life for you? For their job? Good cops do it. Firefighters do it. How do they do it? And even though we will put a magnetic ribbon on our cars in a minute, why can’t we get them guaranteed first class medical care? Have you been to a VA hospital lately? Shoot, where you can find one!!!
Why is it when they leave their families behind we as a nation don’t provide guaranteed educations for their kids? I’m about to write some letters, because our government will cut a tax for a corporation that pollutes our environment and ships half of our jobs off across the ocean in a minute. We need to do more for those who put themselves on the line for us.
Okay, off my soapbox. I had no idea it was gonna go there. I wasn’t trying to rant. Really. I hope that my new military pen pal comes home safely and that we as a nation become more appreciative of the efforts of our veterans and military personnel.
Veteran’s Day.

They are certainly taken for granted and deserve all the benefits they receive and more.

I know. I hope that our gung ho we love the soldiers administration does something about that.
