For the last couple of weeks, I have been trying to get by on as little television as possible. Mostly for my kids, but a bit for myself, too. I may watch two or three shows a week, but for the most part, I’ve been keeping the tv off. The first couple of days there were howls of protest from my eight year old, who REALLY has a thing for Discovery Kids, but the last few days, it has just become a fact of life. I kind of enjoy the quiet. People actually talk and listen to each other more. The only down side is that now that the kids are free and have more imagination to use, they can find more ways to get into trouble than just watching somebody do or say something stupid on television and attempt to emulate it.
It is hard to believe that just a year or so ago, we would have had to almost eat nails to get through “TV Free Week.” I hope this continues.
Tuning out.

That is great…someone else was just posting about TV free households and I mentioned I did a deprivation experiment. It was interesting. I seemed more focused and got more done. As for the kiddies, they just need planned activities instead of tv time…reading, playing games, coloring, etc. They’ll live. 🙂

Berry: everybody does seems to get more done in less time. 🙂
Glory: Before I got married (and shortly after I got married), I didn’t watch much television. I guess I’m slowly going back to that.
