Waiting Out the Storm – Friday Night Rant

When Katrina hit, my first thought was whether my friends who had lived in New Orleans were safe and okay. My second thought was, “Dang. This is WAY too early in hurricane season for this kind of thing to happen.” I mean, once the levees had breached, you could pretty much call it a day. Now the ninth ward levee has been breached again.

Back to the storm at hand. My aunt lives in Lake Charles, and honey, she NEVER leaves there. I mean never. This week, she headed up to northern Louisiana to my uncle’s place. Now, it could be that people don’t play that “I’ll wait out the storm” crap since that Katrina thing went down, but for her to leave there, I am wondering if the city (if you could call a place with only 70k people a city) will even be standing. I hope it is, but South Louisiana is going to be a mess for quite some time.

My other aunt left Houston a few days ago. She ran out of gas in North Texas because fuel was rationed where she was. Thank God she made it to where she was going.

I just want to know what happened to all of the security we had for our homeland. I mean if people are having crises just to evacuate a storm, what’s up when the real problems come along? We know a storm is coming a week in advance and New Orleans and Texas are the best we can do with advance notice? I guess if something unexpected comes, folks just need to stick their heads between their legs and kiss their derrieres goodbye. Mwah! Mwah! Buh-bye now…

You can’t fool mother nature! Everythang is being exposed. I’m beginning to think that we have some angry ancestors because N.O. was hit and now my other side of the family down Port Arthur and Houston have faced off with Rita. If something happens in California I am going to take it personally.

Don’t say that! There are fault lines all up in CA. A coupla shakes in the right places and you’re lookin at California Island.
