My Sistas

I have two biological sisters, and they and I share a special bond that can never be replicated. They inspire me to no end. I have another sister, though, who has made a true impression in my life. She’s about ten years older than me, so she’s kind of who I want to be when I grow up.

She decided, a few years back, to complete her degree (she got married while she was in college) and then she started working for the university where she got her degree at a position that they created for her. Now she is at HP and she recently got her MBA. She is making moves, y’all! But even though she is doing all of these new and exciting things, and becoming a big baller/shot caller, she is still focused on her family and her community. She has balance and she is very real. She moved away to another part of the state a couple of years ago, and we still chat on the phone and email.

I called her when I had my baby. She called me when her sister died. Our conversations have included everything from men to college to politics to well, men. No fronts, and we are always basically >>there
It is such a blessing to have her (and my other real sistas – not all of them biological) in my life. Just about every time I’m having one of those “ugh” days or something, she or one of my other real sistas will call me up or drop me a line and it is always okay. Growing up, outside of my sisters, I didn’t have many female friends because I have never been about the drama, but my real sistas never let me down. We get on each other’s nerves sometimes (especially since we aren’t perfect), but I am thankful to have them in my life. I hope that I help them half as much as they help me.
