Living On the Up and Up

What a way to end Men ain’t no @*#@ good!! week! A few days ago, Oprah had an episode which consisted of a conversation with seven men who had cheated on their wives. They discussed why it happened and things of that nature. I knew that I couldn’t handle the episode, so I saw After the Show and it was not so bad. I read the “signs” and “script” that were given as indicators of men who have gone or may go astray. I wasn’t very impressed with the script because it was way too vague from what I read on the internet. Hey, maybe it worked on the show.

Anywhoo, I figured I would end the week right. I got my copy of On the Up and Up, A Survival Guide For Women Living With Men on the down low. Actually, so many aspects of Brenda Stone Browder’s story could have been applied to a myriad of situations, I think that it is just a good book for any woman who is dealing with relationship ups and downs in general. At the end of the book, though, there is one of her first sermons. The theme was, You have a choice: bitter or better...

Y’all, I have never read a book and put up my hands and said hallelujah and had church up in the middle of the book. She was speaking the truth in those pages. That truth that you get during Sunday dinner with collard greens, cornbread, black eyed peas and pork chops!! The truth your mama and grandmama tell you about when they see that you aren’t doin so good even though the world is looking at you grin ear to ear. And truth is truth. The truth about your need to listen and heed the voice God put inside you when your husband is gettin it on with other men is the same truth that you need at any other crossroads in your life, whether it is in your marriage, career or life in general. She told it. She told it y’all. She told how Mr. J.L. acted a plum fool when she changed the locks on him, but she also told how she came to forgive and love again and help others.

So, it’s worth the sticker price? I might have to pick it up, sis.

I liked it, I bought it at Amazon, so I’m not so sure about the sticker price 🙂
