Emmett W. Chappelle, the recipient of 14 patents,a member of the National Inventor’s Hall of Fame and many of whose discoveries are used in the fields of medicine, philanthropy, food science and astrochemistry was born in 1925 in Phoenix, Arizona. He received his B.S. in biology from the University of California Berkeley in 1950. From 1950-1953, he taught at Meharry Medical College in Nashville.
