Tuesday, I was doing some work in the kitchen when the radio announced that the police had surrounded Clackamas Town Center, a mall south of Portland, which is not far from me. It’s not down the street or in the next town, but I’ve driven down the stretch of highway that passes that particular shopping center on many occasions. While I was putting dishes away and cleaning counters I was shocked and saddened to learn a young, armed man (clad in body armor and a hockey mask) walked into the mall and began to shoot. He hit three people. Two of them died. As bad as that was, it would have been worse, had his rifle not malfunctioned. One of my friends was considering a trip to the mall that day, right before the incident happened. Needless to say, I’m very thankful she decided against it.
