I read a very interesting article at The Root about Serena Williams’ nude cover on ESPN magazine. The editor at now defunct King Magazine basically says that now that a lot of black mags are in trouble, mainstream mags will need to pick up the slack when it comes to celebrating the beauty of black women. While I think it is a great thing to celebrate the beauty of all women, the naked cover and/or spread concept seems a bit cliche to me.
Can we celebrate beauty with our clothes on?

Well, it’s the body issue. *shrug* You know Serena probably asked them if she could pose naked. There is no shame in her game.

ok … but if memory serves, Serena is a little thicker through the hips. If they want to celebrate her body, how about celebrating her REAL body.

@melette – I know.
@chele – Maybe photo editors have run out of stuff to do or something. smh
