From time to time, when I find some nice things, I’ll share em. I judge makeup by the ease of application, the trueness of color (I am a brown-skinned woman, so I need clear, non ashy colors), and the ability of the makeup to maintain its look over a reasonable amount of time.
These products were tested from 9 to 5 on drizzly/rainy-type of days (a specialty in the Pacific Northwest) filled with child care, housework, errands and volunteer work. I give a price point that reflects pricing I’ve seen in stores (including some discount chains and the internet).
Almay Intense I-Color Eyeliner in Purple Amethyst. ($6.40-7.50) – A long time ago, I tried this eyeliner, and it worked okay, so I thought I’d take another crack at it. the formulation and application are the same. Liquid eyeliner, Pretty good applicator to me. Not the easiest I’ve used, but not a dealbreaker by any means. I was looking for a purple liner and the jewel metallic shine of this particular hue worked for me.
Almay Intense I-Color Mascara Lash Color in Purple Amethyst. ($6.49-7.50) – Now THIS one, I
LOVED! I liked the applicator, which was a lot like the lighted shelf store’s atomic mascara. It made my lashes appear plenty longer and thicker and the color picked up the brown in my eyes really well. I’m thinking seriously of getting it in brown. The purple amethyst products are touted to play up brown eyes and I think the combination of the mascara and eyeliner did great things for my eye color. The fact that my husband commented on it without being asked confirmed that it just wasn’t me.
Maybelline The Colossal Volum Express Mascara. ($5.39-5.99) I think I really was looking forward to trying this and getting some colossal eyelashes. I tried glam black. Maybe the shiny black is more effective at making the lashes seem big. At least mine. Maybe I expected too much. It does make my lashes look good without clumping (I could see being able to wear it easily with contacts). It also maintained its look over the course of an entire day, which is always good.
