What a trip! 08.02.08

My oldest son went out on his first sleepover down at the aquarium and had a wonderful time. The whole thing was such a rite of passage. Making sure he knew how to roll up and unroll his sleeping bag, sleeping pad, organizing his toiletries and everything. I am so proud that I didn’t fall out crying when his father took him to sign him in. He is doing more and more important stuff with his father. I know it is part of him growing up. I have to do that focused breathing thing though, when I get those thoughts of, “Hey, did I or did I NOT sit up in labor for over 24 hours with this child? I KNOW that was me!” Inhale. Exhale. All better.

We stayed at a nearby resort (as the aquarium is well over 3 hours from our house). We had a nice little townhouse suite. It was really nice. Al came over after his sleepover was done. When it was time to leave, he wanted to spend more time, because he said he wanted to enjoy more of the suite. So in short, he wanted to kick it when it was time to go home.

Nat had the hardest time dealing with Al being gone. It just didn’t feel right to him, being away from home and Al being gone. Little A and Max? Shoot. They kicked off their shoes , watching tv, and were hanging all over the suite (yet not breaking stuff, cause we don’t play that). They pushed the bedtime issue, but they weren’t up too late.

We saw parts of the coast we had never seen before and it was all beautiful. The funniest moment had to be when Little A tried to take a couple of tidepool souvenirs home. It was really tough to deal with that with a straight face, but we did it. In case you didn’t know, the fish were all hers anyway.

I’m proud of you too big sis!!!! You are doing such a great job with your kids……nobody should ever have to worry about them being prepared for life! And it’s good for them to have moments with their dad…awwwwwww.

That’s cool. You have given your children some great roots, so now it’s time for them to test those wings a little. You are a great Mom.

    Little A is a mess.

That little girl is funny. Not being a mom, it is so novel to me to know that even though your oldest is a big boy, you still have to breathe a bit when watch him reach for manhood/independence. Wow. I must have no idea what I’m in for.

I think that it’s just hard when he reaches these big milestones because I realize how big he is. And how small he used to be. But I’m also glad and thankful for his progress.
