This weekend I was going through cookbooks that I’ve acquired over the years, looking for good recipes to make for my family. I’m a lot less intimidated by exotic ingredients and long cooking times than I was when I bought most of these cookbooks. I was still amazed by the quality of the books I had chosen. I mean, when I got married, I was no slob in the cooking department if I say so myself. My mama believed in putting her three daughters to work in the kitchen. LOL. I still go home and she’s like, “You’re not company. Get to work. ” LOLOL. But I was still sort of put off by having to look for certain ingredients. I guess being married to my husband has done a lot to change that. If you can make an Indian dish, and I’ve made a few, you can cook most things. In the past few years, I’ve tried ganaches, madeleines, I even hand made truffles, so it’s been an adventure. Now, I’m like, hey, let’s get busy. This weekend I tried a new recipe for hush puppies per Al’s request. Everybody liked them, so maybe I’ll try another new dish next weekend.

I’m always amazed by people who cook because they enjoy it, not simply because they have to.

It’s funny because of all of my hobbies, people react most positively to my cooking. It seems to stay with people the longest. My husband keeps just about all of the things I make for him but he doesnt say much about it. Years after the fact, however, he’s like, “Do you remember that lasagna you made when we first married?” LOL.
