I got a background check for this?

Today I worked at Al’s school. It wasn’t so bad. I assembled these little wire cubes for storage in the classroom. I wonder why everybody came up to me telling me how hard it was to assemble them? I mean, yes they could be tedious at times, but ALL these people felt the need to tell me this?
Maybe they were making conversation, but it sort of reminded me why I go to my son’s school, do my volunteer work, consult with the applicable teacher and keep it moving. No, I’m not going to complain about helping the teacher out. I’m there to volunteer. I clock my hours and make my contribution. Leave things in better shape than I found them. Come back next bat month, same bat channel. What’s there to complain about? It’s volunteer work. If it’s so bad, these folks CAN stay home.
I really like working at Al’s school (once I tune out the negative nellies) because he and I get to eat lunch and talk about things that are going on in class. He’s really looking forward to junior high school in a couple of years. I’m glad for him, because he seems really comfortable with the work and his teachers tell me he is doing well. Now to get the other kids set up.
