Last night, I was blessed to see Stevie Wonder in concert. It was awesome. The funny thing was, that I found out about it completely by accident. I was reading some news stories (I tend to scroll downward to find headlines. I mean how many times can one read of Lindsay, Brittney or whatever the nut of the moment is?) and there was a feature about Stevie Wonder touring for the first time in over a decade. THEN I found my city, or rather the city five or ten minutes away from me. And THEN I discovered that tickets went on sale the following morning. If I had found that article the following day I would have been out of luck. VIP sold out in 10 minutes and the entire concert sold out in an hour.
It had been a warm day for an outdoor concert, but who cared? It was STEVIE WONDER. I can’t think of any new musician who could be him on his worst day. Okay? He’s just that amazing. At the beginning of the concert I was just in awe. This man has been in the business around FIFTY YEARS and his voice is the best I’ve heard in concert. Hands down. And just seconds after he started into Love’s in Need of Love, it just dawned on me that God gave this man a tremendous talent. His daughter Aisha was with him, singing backup vocals. She is a beautiful and statuesque woman. All
The concert ran a little over two and a half hours and ended with I Just Called to Say I Love You and Another Star. It was really amazing the variety of people who were in attendance. Every color, ethnicity and economic background one could imagine. Everybody from families to teens to older couples and singles. Dancing. Singing. Just enjoying the concert.
I’m so glad I got the opportunity to be in attendance. Stevie Wonder is the kind of musician who you have to use superlatives to describe even at the risk of sounding cliche. There just aren’t any other words that could touch his talent. Or the concert.
