First Day of Preschool

This morning was my daughter’s first day of preschool. I was really concerned because she is starting at 2 years old and I didn’t want it to be a scary experience. The funny thing was that she went right to the activity tables, the stuffed Winnie the Poohs and just hanged out. I tried to walk up to her to say bye, but she was like, whatever. I had my husband take the morning off in case I needed to stay with her. When I came home, my husband looked at me like I forgot something.

“Where is she?”

“Uh, preschool?”

“She’s okay?”

“I guess so. They have my cell and the home phone in case she comes home. She ran off and started doing activities at the activity table. I said bye so she’d know I was leaving”

“Another Al.”

“Sigh”

When Al was a baby, I was a working mom, so he did the daycare thing. I was so concerned about him missing me because I had taken about four months of leave and we spent every day of it together, with the exception of time he spent with his grandparents. He looked at his new caregivers, he looked at me, and was like, “Bye, mom.” I took it much harder than he did. Today I was happy, though. I just wanted Little A to be happy and learning and stuff.

I just picked her up. She was happy to see me, but her teacher said she had a great day. I’m thankful for that. The selfish mommy part of me wishes they would at least hesitate, some pause, look like they care that I’m leaving. Something. LOL.

You know she is an independent little thing. I’m glad that she is sliding into daycare but I understand what you are saying. Poor Mommy. LOL!!

Thanks. I’m glad she’s going well, too.
