In addition to all of the Spring/Summer goals I have for improving our home and completing my scrapping projects, I’m in the process of learning American Sign Language and teaching it to my kids. I originally took it up to help my second son and my daughter with their speech issues, but all of the kids are really interested. It is a beautiful language and a lot easier to learn than any foreign language I’ve studied, I guess because I have more motivation. The funny thing is that I’ve been showing them signs that I learn as I learn them and most times I just think that they are just deriving verbal benefits from the signing, which they are doing by leaps and bounds. A few days ago, my daughter was playing and she started signing for more blocks. It is really exciting for me to think that maybe after all of this is done, they will have an additional means to communicate with others or even translate if they choose to study it for themselves.
I think my life has been through its own Spring Cleaning since I started reading all of those books in February. Most of them demanded that I evaluate my perceptions and opinions on really important subjects to the extent that really petty things got past me. A few have cropped up, mind you, but they just don’t sidetrack me like they used to. Maybe it’s just the season. I really tend to be focused this time of year.
