This weekend, I’ll be going to Seattle. It’s a really fun place to visit, but somehow I don’t think I’d want to live there unless I had WAY more money. Big cities are like that. They are beautiful and glamorous, and well… EXPENSIVE. Though Seattle is one of the most affordable cities on the west coast, that ain’t sayin much these days. It’s called the emerald city, and it is lush and green and pricey, just like my favorite precious stone in the whole wide world.
Speaking of green, the first time I went to Seattle, it was Starbucks 20th anniversary celebration. They had a big party in the first Starbucks downtown (you want to talk about humble beginnings, visit that first store – its basically a shotgun shack). They had a really nice cake. It was almost addictive. Maybe they used the coffee, cause there has to be something in it that makes people pay that much on the daily for a huge, expensive butt cup. Teachers, businesspeople, housewives. I know somebody from EVERY walk of life that is straight up strung out on Starbucks coffee. I’ve been there a couple of times, but I’m not a big coffee drinker these days. Must be the fact that they practically give it to us in kindergarten where I grew up. Hee hee. My son has asked me about starbucks because of hearing his teachers excitedly talking about making a run. Ah, the power of commercialism. He can’t have any, though.
I’ve been to the Space Needle and the Music Experience and just about all of the touristy places. They have really beautiful parks. I’ve been to a few of those. I’ve also been to the University of Washington, which is one of the best schools in the country. You have to be a good student to go to school so close to downtown, and well, make it to class.
