Because the face isn’t listening. Do you remember that phrase? It was all over popular culture, and by the time they get hold of something, it is highly played. er, tired. um, cliched. Okay cliched. But it has some validity, though, because by the time you tell someone to talk to the hand, things have totally broken down, and communication does NOT take place.
I remember this saying in jr high and high school. Sometimes it has been used in jest in adulthood, but I know some people who are very grown who have effectively put up the hand to each other. Feelings were hurt back when one party was in college, and now, at least five years plus later, they still don’t speak to the person responsible for said hurt feelings.
Both parties are on the outer rings of my social circle, and other than these trifling dealings, thay are all very nice, caring, great people, which is always disheartening for me to deal with, because most people in college are in such need of maturity, that I pretty much write off things said or done back then. I chalk it up to naivite and stupidity and move on. I know everybody doesn’t roll like that, but they should. Life is too short for this kind of mess.
