Everybody knows that shoplifting is illegal and immoral and not a good idea, but trying it at the A&N Food Market in the Flushing, Queens section of New York is a really expensive proposition. If one of their 30 store cameras catches someone pilfering merchandise, he/she will be forced to surrender identification (and sometimes credit cards) and pose for a photograph holding said pilfered merchandise. If the store is not paid a 400 dollar fine for the theft, the police are called and the photographs are displayed to embarrass the thief. All of this is perfectly legal in New York, by the way, because its state laws give shopkeepers police-like powers when it comes to stealing. They even have the right to file a civil suit to recover their property.
