An Africa Moment…

My oldest son has been studying the history of the different kingdoms throughout the continent of Africa. History books have come a long way since I was in school. There is so much more information about the history of what went on in Africa before and after interactions with Europe. The slave trade has been especially interesting to work through with him. No punches have been pulled where the role of Africans in the sale of Africans is concerned. I think that it is good to be honest about these types of historical facts (the book also talks about the achievements and innovations of the African civilizations), although the facts are not pleasant to learn about. Dr. Henry Louis Gates wrote an interesting Op-Ed about the role of Africa in the reparations debate.
