His name is Carlos Slim Helu and he is a Mexican engineer, entrepreneur and philanthropist who is mainly invested in the telecommunications industry. He controls Teléfonos de México (Telmex), Telcel and América Móvil. Can’t Americans be first at ANYTHING anymore? We don’t even have the most stuff? What are we good for? Just kidding.

Carlos Slim Helu’s art collection is housed at the Museo Soumaya in Mexico City. http://www.museosoumaya.com/ In addition to a recent pledge to almost double his charitable foundations’ endowments, he has recently donated almost 7 billion dollars in cash and stock to health and education projects and the revitalization of Mexico City’s downtown historical district. He and his family control 8 percent of the GDP of Mexico. In order for Bill Gates to own 8 percent of the US GDP, he would need to amass 17 times his current fortune.
