Superstition ain’t the way.

To anybody that grew up in the deep south before four or five years ago, the words of Stevie Wonder’s Superstition ring especially true.

When you believe in things you don’t understand, then you suffer.

When I grew up in Louisiana, there was this blind and stupid acceptance of white privilege/Jim Crow as the standard mode of operation. Which may have had some kind of credence had I grown up before 1950 (but not really even then).

This story from one of Michelle Obama’s Princeton classmates (which Afrobella discussed) reminds me of the people who I once thought were friends and ultimately had to cut loose, along with living or working in the state of Louisiana, because of such backward views.
