Sugar Free Oreos

Okay, I was at the store getting food for the week and I thought I’d give those sugar free oreos a shot. The cookies are sweetened with maltitol, which does not promote tooth decay and metabolizes slower than regular sugar (sucrose). That makes it a good bet for diabetics.  That’s the good news.

However, there is plenty of bad news to go around. The cookies are smaller. So most people may feel the urge to eat more. For calorie watchers, three cookies only deliver a 20 calorie difference between them and original sugar laden cookies. Oh, and the best part? There is a warning on the box that eating too many cookies may have a laxative effect. I might have those cookies until next Christmas, because I am not the one for “laxative effects,” and that’s real. I guess I should write a thank you note to craft, because I am all about my fresh fruit after this mess.
