The FBI is looking into Virginia voter intimidation. It appears that likely democratic voters are receiving calls that polling places have been changed. Last year there were radio ads and flyers posted throughout African American communities. Maybe the foci of voter registration also needs to extend to absentee voting. No polling places. Just vote and mail. That’s what my husband and I do. This is his first Election Day election (he became a citizen this Summer). I think that is so cool. So many people from so many countries want to become a part of processes which we Americans take for granted. If you are reading this and you haven’t voted, go vote.
This year was the first year I really found myself looking seriously at the independent candidates for office. They all had great ideas, and didn’t have the slimy residue of the two party system, if you know what I mean. I know I won’t be changing my independent status anytime for the forseeable future. That’s sad because I was raised by die hard, pro-education, workers rights supporting democrats. And though I was let down by that party on several occasions, I’m not disillusioned enough to become a republican. To vote for some, sure. To become one, no.
